Assessments

Real understanding, not just a checklist

Our assessments help you understand how your child communicates, learns and experiences the world, with clear, practical next steps. We can carry out a range of assessments for children aged 0 to 21, and run a fast-track assessment clinic every school holidays.

Autism assessments

Led by a Speech Therapist, with input from an Occupational Therapist, so we can build a well-rounded picture of your child’s strengths, preferences and support needs. We use the MIGDAS-2 (Monteiro Interview Guidelines for Diagnosing the Autism Spectrum), a strengths-based, neuroaffirming approach, for children aged 3 and up.

What’s included

  • Parent interview (about 1 to 1.5 hours)
  • Teacher questionnaire
  • Play-based child assessment session (about 1 to 1.5 hours)
  • Clinical analysis and interpretation
  • A comprehensive written report with practical recommendations for home and school
  • A 30-minute feedback session

Cost: $1,500, covering everything above. Medicare or private health rebates may apply.

What happens next? Our report gives a detailed picture of your child, but a formal diagnosis needs to be confirmed by a doctor. You take the report to your paediatrician (or another qualified specialist), who uses it to confirm a diagnosis.

VCE and HSC handwriting assessments

Our OTs carry out specialist handwriting assessments for older students, looking at the quality, legibility and speed of handwriting. For Autistic and ADHD students, and students identified with Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) or a Specific Learning Disorder of Written Expression, the results can support an application for exam accommodations through VCAA (Victoria) or NESA (NSW).

You’ll receive a written report with recommendations, such as laptop use or extra time.

Recommendations support a student’s application but can’t guarantee it will be successful. Online bookings are for the Melbourne clinic; for Sydney, please call the office or register.

School holiday fast-track clinic

We run a fast-track Assessment Clinic every school holidays, which has significantly improved access to comprehensive assessments.
